Fused art glass and me…
I have been a keen artist all my life and have worked in many different media over the years. I have created floral paintings on silk, designed many commercially successful cross stick kits and worked with many forms of fabric art,
from felting to patchwork.
I have worked as an Electronic Design Engineer for many years and this background has helped me enormously as an artist. The requirement to start with an objective to achieve, and a bank bit of paper, can be daunting but as an artist
and engineer you absolutely relish this challenge to create. The skills of an engineer to evaluate, problem solve and refine are also core skills for an artist.
I now create works using coloured glass, fused in a kiln at around 800 degrees centigrade, to form many different pieces, from 3 dimensional flowers, to house signs, to memorial pieces to windows. All the glass starts off as large
flat sheets of various colours. I then create a design, cut the pieces by hand and assemble them using powdered glass and enamels (very finely ground glass in a water or oil carrier that burns off in the kiln) to achieve to look
I desire. This means the finished pieces are solid glass with no paints or plastic layers to achieve any of he effects or colours. The result is an incredibly hard wearing piece where the design will not rub-off or weather. This
makes them equally suitable for indoor or outdoor display.
Angel Wings
These hanging suncatchers have been very well received. They are ideal for giving to someone who you want to watch over or for memorials.
Custom House Sign
Commissioned by a customer, as everything I do is handmade I am able to design every bit to suit your requirements; size, background colour, number/name, image etc.
March hare
A study of a sitting hare. I’ve always been inspired by the work of the Impressionists and I think that their influence is clear here. This piece has only been lightly fused, enough so the individual pieces of glass firmly bond and
soften to smooth rounded edges but the overall piece still retains a lot of texture.
I tend to do this a lot as each little surface and edge acts as a mirror to reflect and refract light. This means that with every different source of light, and from whatever angle you view the piece from, the effects are slightly
different.
Some of my Etsy feedback
I have well over 100 5 star reviews on Etsy for the quality of my work and my service.
“I bought the chakra sun catcher for my friend and she absolutely LOVED it, it is so beautifully made! What a lovely experience all round, thank you! I want one for myself now lol”
“Bought this as a birthday present for my key worker son, a rainbow of hope. Alison is so very kind and helpful with nothing too much trouble, I had left my order a little late to arrive for 30th Dec and I also asked if it would be possible for his name and the year 2020 to be included somewhere. She was so helpful and kept me informed with the progress. My son absolutely loves it especially as it has such meaning. I think I need one too! ”
“Beautiful! And fantastic communication. Thank you so much xx ”
